Alcohol and Pollution Documentary Event at Pocono Community Theater

On January 14, 2010, Youth Infusion in partnership with East Stroudsburg High School South hosted a showing of two documentaries, “We Are the Solution to Pollution” and “Before You Drink” at the Pocono Community Theater. Students from Patricia Tiernan’s class identified Alcoholism and Pollution as two pressing issues in their community. Youth Infusion staff
worked closely with the students and helped connect them with community experts on these issues. All of the community partners were interviewed by the students and asked about their view points. It was very rewarding to see how involved the students were in these projects and how much they learned from the process. Not only did they learn so much more about pollution, alcoholism, their environment and the world, but they also learned real world skills. By interviewing scientists, activists, environmentalists, counselors and public officials, they learned how to communicate effectively and improve their literacy skills. Over 200 people attended the event.
