Garden Gurus at East Stroudsburg University

The “Green Team” students from East Stroudsburg High School South’s Cavalier Justice Academy organized a “Recycling Runway” fashion show at East Stroudsburg University’s Earth Day Celebration on April 23, 2010. The Greater Green Fashionistas showcased eco-friendly and consignment fashions. They featured models wearing reused, repurposed, and recycled fashions to raise awareness about the environmental degradation that is the result of fashion and textile production. In addition, they also created Public Service Announcements (PSA’s) that were previewed at the showing of the “BeNoBull” Documentary and Community Event on May 20th. Youth Infusion connected these students with local businesses that provided them with information used to create a successful Recycle Fashion Show.
These businesses are dedicated to the cradle to cradle resource utilization and included Close the Loop, Waste Not Technologies, Hot Heads Salon, organic hair and make-up, organic clothing manufacturers/retailers and consignment shops.

Students also creatively created bags made out of recycled Cavalier Times School Newspaper and, in the bags, they placed “Think Green” T-shirts designed by the students and printed by student, Mike Colao. Close the Loop provided mulch made out of recycled glass and pencils made out of recycled newspaper to add to the goodies in the bags. C.C.F. Remodeling created a recycle platform for the young models to stand on with recycled glass mulch on top.
