School-based Service-learning Initiative

The School-based Service-learning Initiative provides an opportunity for classroom teachers to connect students with community resources so as to implement service-learning projects that extend beyond the classroom. According to the National Youth Leadership Council, service-learning is a teaching method that integrates community service with academic study to enrich learning, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities. It provides an opportunity for young people to become deeply engaged in addressing real community needs, while mastering the classroom content set forth by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The founders of Youth Infusion understand that a quality education must include opportunities for students to deeply engage in real world issues. They also believe that partnerships with schools are critical so that students are able to link what is learned in the classroom with high stakes public outcomes. Connecting with their community and conducting authentic and pragmatic projects gives students a sense of purpose, cultivates self reliance, and promotes sustained civic involvement. The School-based Service-learning Initiative is available to all schools in Northeast Pennsylvania.  For more information, click here.

"The Power of Ten" Youth-led Campaign

On December 1, 2011, Youth Infusion, Inc. was awarded a subcontract through the Pennsylvania Department of Health to engage at least twenty youth of Monroe County in a school-based tobacco prevention education campaign.  The goal of the Tobacco Free Northeast program is to to facilitate a comprehensive tobacco control program in the Northeast Health District which includes the counties of Carbon, Lackawanna, Lehigh, Luzerne, Monroe, Northampton, Pike, Susquehanna, Wayne, and Wyoming.  It includes required elements by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Best Practices: prevent initiation of tobacco use among young people, promote quitting among adults and young people, eliminate nonsmokers’ exposure to secondhand smoke, and identify and eliminate tobacco related health disparities.  Students in this year's program will develop peer education programs which they will present at neighboring schools, as well as meet with local legislators to advocate in support of the program. Youth Advisory Board (YAB)

Youth Infusion, Inc. is a grassroots (501c3) non-profit organization dedicated to engaging young people through the development of school and community-based youth programs.  The organization relies on its Youth Advisory Board (YAB) for guidance to ensure that programs created are appropriate and enjoyable for young people.  Input, suggestions, and recommendations from the YAB are key to Youth Infusion’s success.  Because transportation is a significant issue in Northeast Pennsylvania, the Youth Advisory Board currently meets “virtually” via conference call, so that more young people can participate.  If you or someone you know would like to join the YAB, please contact us.
